The University of Regina has a rich heritage spanning more than 100 years. It was established in 1911 as a private high school. In 1974, it was announced as an autonomous body. The university has 16,500 students. The university offers than 120 UG programs and 78 PG Degrees in over 15 disciplines which include business administration, social work, health, Engineering, media, and many more.
The Wascana Campus has apartment-style residences which can house 1200 students. It has 10 faculties, 25 academic departments and schools, 18 research centers and institutes, and three federated colleges (Campion College, First Nations University of Canada, and Luther College).
The city was previously known as Wascana but was later changed to Regina (queen in Latin) in honor of Queen Victoria. International students from about 90 countries are studying in this university which comprised 17.7% of the total student population. It has 3,196 individuals in academic and staff positions in 2017.
The University of Regina works with more than 295 Institutes from 48 countries. The University provides placement assistance to its students through a career center that conducts career fairs, does academic advising, and has a U of R job board. It has a co-operative Education Work experience program which enables its students to earn while they learn and students can earn up to 10 million.
The university endowment fund has a healthy value of 86.1 million Dollars. The University of Regina boasts of 78,643 strong Alumni. Some of its notable alumni include Akiem Hicks (American footballer), Jhon Hewson (Australian politician), Jonathan Denis (Canadian Politician), Robert Boyer (visual artist), Elizabeth Raum (music composer). Dr. Mohan Babu, a faculty member, is collaborating with the University of Toronto and the Harvard medical school to find new ways to fight e-coli.
