Computer technology continues to advance and is complimentary to virtually any other field. As a Computer Science student, you will learn about the ways in which computers and software aid, inform and enrich our lives and gain a strong theoretical knowledge of how computers work and how they can carry out tasks in software applications. This mathematically rich, theory-based program provides students with the knowledge and skills to competently succeed in any industry and confidently move into further studies.

The Department of Computer Science is an internationally recognized research centre, providing students the opportunity to work in active research laboratories ­– from robotics to bioinformatics ­­­– using mathematics and methods from nature to solve computing problems.

The study of computer science is complementary to almost any other field­. Think about the apps you use to share pictures or check bus times, the video games you enjoy playing or the special effects in your favourite films. They are all created using computer science.

The Faculty of Science offers multiple programs of study leading to a Bachelor of Science (Major) degree or a Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) degree. Plus there are various Joint programs that lead to a Major or Honours degree.

BSc degrees at a glance

BSc Major: 4 years, approx. (120 credit hours) of study earned with a minimum degree GPA of 2.00. Students may select a minor to complement their major area of study. Eligible students may also choose to join the Co-op program. Graduates of the major program who demonstrate high academic performance may be eligible for entrance to graduate or professional studies. This program can be completed on a part-time basis.

BCSc Honours: 4 years, approx. (120 credit hours) of study with a minimum degree GPA of 3.00. Students will engage in advanced studies through coursework and/or research projects. Eligible students may also choose to join the Co-op program. This is the preferred program for students looking to pursue graduate studies. This program must be completed on a full-time basis.
